Marriage 4

This episode covers the entirety of Genesis 24, Abraham seeking a wife for his son Isaac. We note parental involvement in matchmaking, both the interest of the bride's family and the bride's consent, the simplicity of the wedding, and then took up Genesis 25, and Abraham's other wife and concubines, and the family of Isaac at the end.

In the third episode on marriage, we take up the Abraham and Sarah story in Genesis. We cover marriage, children, Abraham's fatherhood, Hagar and concubines, the depravity of Sodom, and the situation with Lot.

In this episode, we cover Genesis 3 to 11, giving particular attention to the Fall into sin and its impact on marriage, the fruit of marriage in the gift of children, and the curse playing out in Lamech's two wives and in the barrenness of Sarai.

In this episode we answered a number of questions about immigration, in light of God's design for the nations and peoples in the Bible. There is design and purpose in the diversity of the peoples and the boundaries God has put for the nations. This is drawn from Acts 17.

In this episode, we consider how the Christian has to make choices when it comes to voting, and then we take up the topic of Immigration and work it through our biblical framework. We consider Leviticus 19:33-34, Matthew 25:35, 1 Peter 1:1, and Hebrews 13:1.

Today, we finish reviewing how the Ten Commandments map out over the kingdoms of church, state, and family. Discussion followed on how we learn from the Bible, Books like Kings and Chronicles, how most earthly rulers are only OK, some are mixed good and bad, and actually great rulers are few and far between.

In the second session, we take the three estates and we lay them over the grid of the Ten Commandments. We make it through the first four commandments and discuss how the Church, State, and Family handle God's Law in terms of curb, mirror, and guide.

This is the first in a short series on how to use the Scriptures to make informed political decisions as Christians. In this episode, we take up Romans 13 and then the Lutheran understanding of the three estates or kingdoms of church, state, and household.

Women Voters in Church 14

This is the final in-class session wrapping up our discussion about women in the Church. Two questions were answered concerning women teaching and then women voting. Reference was made to an article by Dr. Douglas Judisch from 1977 addressing women voters, a handout that was given but not read in class.
